Too hot to play all day at Beach Volleyball Junior Finals in Australia

Western Australia’s men completed a hat-trick of victories on home sand at Australia’s National Junior Beach Volleyball Championships last week as they clinched gold in the under-17, under-19 and under-23 categories while Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales won the women’s under-17, under-19 and under-23 divisions respectively on Scarborough Beach on the western coast of Australia. The tournament took place in boiling conditions which halted play in the middle of the day on Tuesday and Wednesday. In the under-23 men's division, Western Australia clinched back-to-back titles following victory in 2010 as Court/Snart defeated Durant/Grice in straight sets to take gold while Borrett/Kingston beat Victoria’s Brisbane/Lipscombe for the under-19 title and Staples/Walker saw off Queensland Mecchia/Chant for the under-17 crown. Meanwhile New South Wales’ Artacho/Bartoli sealed a straight sets win over home duo Robertson/Harris to take the under-23 women's division as Morrow/Stajanovic of Victoria added to the local women’s disappointment by beating Clinch/Harris. Davey/Cunningham of Queensland completed the three women’s champions as they defeated McKenzie/Wilson of South Australia in the under-17 final. “We suspended play during the middle of the day on Tuesday and Wednesday because of the heat,” Tournament Director Cassie Behrens said. “I’d say they were perfect conditions, if not a tad hot.” See Testimonials Page on COBRAVOLLEYBALL.ORG and comments on COBRAVOLLEYBALL.COM |
